Jesus Anointed at Bethany NIV John 12 1-8
Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus' honour. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages. He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
"Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."
Beautiful, something about Mary captivated Jesus.
Could it have been the same thing that captivated him about the woman in Mathew 26?
The Anointing at Bethany NKJ Mathew 26:6-13
And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste? For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor."
But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."
What is the connection with these two incredible women?
Jesus was captivated by these women, they took his breath away loving him in a way he had never seen nor felt on earth before. These women had a burning desire beyond anything he had seen or witnessed. They had an anointing that caused them to be remembered and marked in history forever.
They had the anointing of 'WASTE'.
To waste their life's at his feet and love him with a surrendered heart.
There could be no greater place to spend your life than pouring your heart out at the feet of the man that poured out innocent blood for you.
The anointing of 'waste' is the ability to surrender at any cost your whole life to pouring out pure love on the father.
Are you willing to surrender and accept the call to 'waste' your life at the feet of Jesus?
There truly is no greater place to spend the rest of your life, pouring out pure, surrendered love on your creator.
